Joshua ‘Josh’ Daniel Powell, a resident of Canton, Connecticut, has passed away at the age of twenty-five. During his high school years at Canton High School, Josh’s talent and work ethic shone brightly. He was a prominent figure on both the Junior Varsity (J.V.) and Varsity basketball teams. In his senior year, Josh was honored with the Canton High School Sportsmanship Award, a testament to his dedication, enthusiasm, and fair play. Josh’s academic prowess was equally impressive. He was recognized with an Outstanding Achievement in Public Speaking Award before his graduation in 2017. After graduating from high school, Josh pursued higher education at Western New England University, where he earned a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Business in 2021. His time at the university was marked by significant accomplishments. He served as a Resident Assistant in the dorms and played a key role in summer orientation programs for incoming students. His academic achievements were further recognized by his inclusion on the Dean’s List for three consecutive semesters.
Josh’s dedication to basketball continued during his college years. His semester abroad in London was particularly noteworthy, as he was named the Regents University Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. This accolade was a testament to his skill, dedication, and ability to excel on an international stage.
During his college years, Josh also gained practical experience through his managerial role at a vitamin store. His background in fitness, health, and weightlifting, combined with his charisma and work ethic, made him a standout salesman and manager. Following his undergraduate studies, Josh pursued a Master’s degree in Organizational Psychology at the University of Hartford. Personal Life and Legacy:
Josh Powell is survived by his mother, Lori Snow, and her companion, Martin O’Connell, of Congers, NY, as well as his father, Jack Powell, of Canton. His siblings, Zachary Powell and his partner, Cathryn Chang; Alexandra Powell and her partner, Alexa Morales; Noelia Powell; Jose Alberto Rodriguez and his wife, Nayara Colon; and Mikaela Massimino and her spouse, Matthew, will remember him fondly. Josh’s family and friends are left with cherished memories of his kindness, generosity, and the positive impact he had on their lives.
In honor of Josh Powell’s life and legacy, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Canton Firehouse on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This event will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to come together and celebrate Josh’s remarkable life.
