For the past eight years, Matthew called Gates Mills, Ohio, his home, a place he affectionately referred to as his “forever home.” He shared this idyllic space with his wife, Lyndy, and their two daughters, Jade and Rose. Together, they created a haven filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. Matthew’s dedication to his family was unwavering, and he poured his energy into creating meaningful traditions and ensuring his home was a sanctuary for his loved ones.

Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew was deeply involved in his community. He played a leadership role in the Gates Mills Art Show, showcasing his dedication to promoting creativity and culture within his community. An avid outdoorsman, Matthew found solace and joy in hiking, fishing, and exploring the natural beauty of the Chagrin River with his family.

In 2001, Matthew’s life took a transformative turn when he met Lyndy while working as an outdoor education teacher in Brinkhaven, Ohio. Their connection was immediate and profound, and they embarked on a nearly 20-year marriage filled with adventure, love, and shared dreams. The couple had planned to celebrate their anniversary in Big Sur, California, staying in a yurt at Treebones, a destination that held special significance for them.
Matthew’s passions extended beyond nature and education. He was deeply invested in world politics, human rights, and music, interests that reflected his thoughtful and compassionate worldview. A loyal Cleveland Browns fan, Matthew found joy in cheering for his favorite team, a tradition he shared with his family and friends. His love of literature was another defining aspect of his life, and he was known for his prolific reading habits.
In addition to his many roles, Matthew ran his own business, Unity Ceremonies, where he served as a wedding officiant. His ability to connect with people on a personal level earned him recognition as the top wedding officiant in Northeast Ohio. Family traditions were central to Matthew’s life. He found joy in simple yet profound moments, such as splitting wood for the bonfires and wood-burning stove that kept his home warm during the winter months. Matthew is survived by his wife, Lyndy; their two daughters, Jade and Rose; his mother, Louise, of South Russell; his sister, Jennifer; his brothers, Bob (Beth), John (Tina), and Dan (Megan); and numerous nieces and nephews.
