Detective Mark J. DiDato was born on January 7, 1973, in the Bronx, New York. His family moved to Hopewell Junction in 1985, where Mark grew up and attended John Jay Senior High School, graduating in 1991. Mark began his career in law enforcement as a Corrections Officer at Green Haven Correctional Facility, where he served from 1997 to 2000. His commitment to public service and his community led him to join the East Fishkill Police Department, where he dedicated 21 years of his life before retiring as a Detective in 2021.
Mark’s tenure with the East Fishkill Police Department was marked by his unwavering dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being of the community. He was a beloved member of the department and the community, known for his warm demeanor, professionalism, and integrity. His colleagues and friends in the law enforcement community remember him as a dependable and compassionate individual who always went above and beyond in his duties.
After retiring from the police department, Mark continued to serve his community by working as a School Safety Officer at John Jay Senior High School. His dedication to ensuring the safety of students and staff further solidified his reputation as a pillar of the community. Mark’s presence in the halls of John Jay Senior High School was a testament to his lifelong commitment to public service and community well-being.
Mark was also an avid fan of the New York Rangers and the New York Yankees, and he found joy in fishing, a hobby that allowed him to relax and connect with nature. His love for sports and the outdoors was well-known among his friends and family, who cherished the moments spent with him enjoying these activities.
Mark is survived by his fiancé, Pina Libertella of Fishkill, who shared his life and dreams; his parents, Robert and Edvige (Miniaci) DiDato of Hopewell Junction, who provided him with a loving and supportive upbringing; and his brother, Robert J. DiDato of East Fishkill, who stood by him throughout his life. Mark is also survived by many cousins, countless friends, and his brothers and sisters in law enforcement, who regarded him as a cherished member of their community.
Mark was predeceased by his brother, Sergeant Daniel DiDato, who passed away on December 18, 2023. The loss of his brother was a profound moment in Mark’s life, and he carried the memory of Daniel with him every day. The DiDato family now faces the unimaginable grief of losing another beloved member, and they are deeply appreciative of the support and condolences received from the community.
The obituary and funeral arrangements for Detective Mark J. DiDato have been announced by his family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, from 6-8 pm and Thursday, July 18th, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., located at 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. These calling hours provide an opportunity for the community to come together and pay their respects to a man who dedicated his life to their safety and well-being.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 19th, at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The service will be followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, where Mark will be laid to rest. This solemn occasion will be a moment for family, friends, and the community to honor Mark’s life and legacy.
