Luke Rufener, a beloved resident of Wadsworth, Ohio, and an alum of Rittman High School, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35. Luke died on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at his home, and while the cause of death has not been disclosed, his passing has left a profound sense of loss among his family, friends, and community.

Born on October 20, 1988, in Wadsworth, Luke was the son of David and LeAnn Rufener. He grew up in Rittman and graduated from Rittman High School in 2007. Known for his warm heart and delightful sense of humor, Luke made a significant impact on those around him. He had an innate ability to empathize with others and was particularly special to his nieces and nephews, who adored him.

Luke had a deep affection for animals, especially his beloved cat, Floki. He found solace in gardening, fishing, and immersing himself in nature. Despite facing challenges with drug and mental health issues throughout his life, Luke remained a figure of kindness and generosity.

Survived by his parents, David and LeAnn Rufener, Luke is also remembered by his three siblings: Kristina (Trent) Steffen of Rittman, Patrick (Megan) Rufener of Copley, and Kathryn (Andrew) Steiner of Hancock, Minnesota. He leaves behind eight nieces and nephews, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Luke was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roland and Melva Messner, and his paternal grandparents, Elton and Velma Rufener.

The community will gather to honor Luke’s memory with services scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Faith Church, located at 747 Rufener St., Rittman. The service will be officiated by church ministers, and burial will follow at Rittman Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Following the burial, there will be a meal and fellowship at the church, providing an opportunity for loved ones to come together in remembrance and support.

Luke Rufener’s life, marked by his kindness, humor, and passion for nature, will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through the memories he created and the impact he made on the lives of those around him.
