The small town of Brooker, Florida, has been shrouded in grief and deep sorrow following the heartbreaking news of the passing of Rhett Carson Green, a beloved two-year-old who left this world far too soon. Born on July 5, 2022, in Middleburg, Florida, Rhett’s short life, though brief in years, was nothing short of extraordinary in the love and joy he radiated. The young boy passed away on September 21, 2024, but even in his early years, he left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a beloved child who, with his infectious laughter, playful curiosity, and loving spirit, managed to touch the hearts of those around him in ways that will never be forgotten.
To anyone who crossed paths with Rhett, it was evident that he lived every moment to the fullest. His family and friends will always remember him for his adventurous spirit, his endless energy, and the way his bright smile could instantly uplift those around him. In a life that was tragically cut short, Rhett managed to pack more joy, love, and laughter into his two years than many do in a lifetime. His presence was felt everywhere he went, and his legacy, though short in time, will live on forever in the memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Young Adventurer and Joyful Spirit
Rhett was, without a doubt, a boy filled with curiosity and a thirst for adventure. Even at such a young age, he had an undeniable love for the outdoors, which became one of his defining characteristics. Those who knew Rhett remember how he would eagerly explore the world around him, turning every opportunity into an adventure. Whether he was getting his hands muddy, scouting for deer and turkeys in the nearby woods, or helping out with tasks that required riding on a tractor or truck, Rhett never passed up the chance to immerse himself in nature. His love for the outdoors was pure and enthusiastic, and he was always on the lookout for the next exciting thing to discover.
Rhett’s boundless enthusiasm for life was best captured by his joyous reaction to seeing a white truck pass by. “There’s Papa!” he would shout excitedly, every time he spotted one, a testament to his playful and affectionate nature. His love for his family, particularly for his grandfather whom he affectionately called “Papa,” was unmistakable and unwavering. Rhett shared a deep bond with his family members, and his joy was always evident in his interactions with them.
One of Rhett’s constant companions in his explorations was his beloved chocolate lab, Goose. The two were inseparable, sharing laughter, playtime, and moments of happiness. Their bond was something special, and Goose’s playful demeanor always matched Rhett’s boundless energy. The two shared a special connection that went beyond the ordinary bond between a child and their pet. Whether they were running around in the yard or enjoying a quiet moment together, Rhett and Goose were a perfect pair, embodying the innocence and joy of a boy and his best friend.
Cherished Moments and Little Treasures
Like any young child, Rhett had his favorite things that brought him endless happiness. From popsicles that made his eyes light up to his absolute love for watching Paw Patrol (which he endearingly referred to as “milk and trolls”), these little joys were part of the daily fabric of his life. His family would often recall how his eyes would light up at the sight of his favorite treats or TV shows, always ready to share a smile or laugh with them.
Rhett’s playful imagination also led him to develop a deep love for his “Woody and Buzz” toys, characters from the Toy Story franchise that he adored. He would spend hours playing with his favorite toys, often in the company of his cousins or his best friend, Jayce. Together, they would create imaginary worlds and embark on grand adventures, transforming the simplest of playtimes into magical moments of laughter and joy.
But perhaps the most treasured memories of Rhett were the warm hugs and kisses he showered on his loved ones. To those who had the privilege of feeling Rhett’s embrace, it was clear that his small arms could somehow carry the weight of endless love and comfort. His affectionate nature made him a child who was easy to love, and his ability to spread happiness through the simple act of a hug or a kiss was something that everyone close to him cherished deeply.
A Family’s Light
For Rhett’s family, he was not just a beloved son, grandson, nephew, or cousin—he was everything they could have ever dreamed of. His parents, Spencer and Grayce Green, were devoted to him in every sense of the word. They often described Rhett as their world, someone who brought endless light into their lives and made even the most ordinary moments feel extraordinary. His Mama would always say, “Rhett was everything we could have ever possibly imagined.” Her words capture the essence of who Rhett was—a dream come true for a family that loved him more than anything else in the world.
Rhett’s bond with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins was just as strong. His Papa and Gigi, Doug and Michelle Green, along with his Mimi, Stacey Blankenship, and all of his extended family, adored him with a love that was pure and unwavering. For Rhett, family was everything, and he was everything to his family. His presence brought joy to family gatherings, and his playful energy was always a source of happiness for those around him.
He was equally adored by his “Pops and Gigi” (Scott and Jamie Girgis), “Lolli” (Lisa Morris), “Grampy and Nana” (Stanley and Mary Jane Green), as well as his “Papa and Nana” (Dean and Sally Traylor), and “Mema” (Judy Sheldon), each of whom played a special role in Rhett’s life. His life was surrounded by the love of a close-knit family, and his short time on earth was filled with moments of laughter, affection, and the deep, lasting bonds that only family can offer.
A Soul Welcomed into Heaven
The tragic loss of Rhett is softened only by the belief that he was embraced by the loving arms of Jesus as he left this world. In Heaven, Rhett has joined his great-great-grandmother, Ruby Rebecca Girgis, who will now watch over him as he continues to explore and play in the eternal light of love. For his family, the thought of Rhett’s joy continuing in Heaven is a small comfort during this time of overwhelming grief.
A Celebration of Life and Remembrance
To honor Rhett’s life and the profound impact he had on those who knew him, a private service for immediate family was scheduled for September 25th at 6 PM at the Belle Oaks Barn Chapel in Brooker, FL. Following this intimate service, a Celebration of Life event was held from 8 to 9 PM, where friends and family gathered to reflect on the joy Rhett brought into their lives. The event was not meant to be a time of sorrow, but rather a time to celebrate the extraordinary life Rhett led in his two short years. Guests were asked to wear “happy” colors, a reflection of Rhett’s vibrant spirit and his family’s desire to remember him in a way that was as bright and joyful as he was.
In lieu of traditional floral arrangements, the family requested flowers or plants that could be planted in a garden in Rhett’s memory. The idea of a living, growing memorial to Rhett’s life was a fitting tribute to a child who loved the outdoors and found so much happiness in nature.
A Lasting Legacy of Love
Though Rhett Carson Green’s life was tragically brief, his legacy is one of immense love, joy, and adventure. He was a boy who lived with unbridled enthusiasm, shared his love openly with those around him, and found happiness in the simplest of moments. His family, friends, and all who knew him will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Rhett’s passing is an immeasurable loss, but the impact of his short life will continue to resonate for years to come. His story is one of love, laughter, and a little boy who, in his two years, managed to teach everyone around him what it means to truly live.
