Born on September 23, 2003, Patty was a bright light whose laughter, warmth, and infectious personality made an everlasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Patty’s life was filled with love, laughter, and purpose. She was the beloved daughter of Nina Kelly-Leonard and Michael Leonard, and a cherished sister to William Kelly III and his wife Leah Kelly, Connie Kelly, Catherine Kelly, Myles Leonard, and James Leonard. Her grandmother, Patricia Leonard, held a special place in her heart, as did her cousin Alexa Leonard and her nephew Jackson Cole Napolitano. Patty was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sylvester Leonard, Samuel Tarantino, and Concetta Tarantino, as well as her Uncle Bobby Leonard, all of whom she held dear. She also left behind countless other cousins, aunts, and uncles who adored her. As an animal lover, Patty shared her home and heart with her two Pomeranians, Mochi and Moo, who were her constant companions.
Patty’s early years were marked by an eagerness to learn and a zest for life. From a young age, she exhibited an exceptional level of wisdom and maturity that endeared her to her family and friends. By the age of three, Patty was reading books and tying her shoes, a testament to her precocious nature. Her family recalls her vibrant personality, boundless energy, and the way she effortlessly filled every room with joy. Music was one of Patty’s many passions, and she often surprised her loved ones with spontaneous renditions of her favorite songs, her voice carrying the warmth and happiness she radiated every day.
Patty attended Waldwick High School, where her natural charisma and bright spirit left a lasting impression on her teachers and classmates. After graduating, she followed her dreams to Florida, where she pursued studies in Criminal Law with the goal of making a positive impact on the world. Her dedication to justice and her unwavering commitment to helping others reflected her generous and empathetic nature. Despite living away from home, Patty made it a priority to remain deeply connected with her family, brightening their days with her regular FaceTime calls and thoughtful gestures.
Her loved ones describe Patty as unapologetically herself, a woman of profound authenticity who lived life on her own terms. She was a steadfast friend, a loving family member, and a source of inspiration for all who knew her. Patty’s humor and spontaneity were legendary; she could bring a smile to anyone’s face, often with just a single witty remark or heartfelt joke. The loss of Patty has left her family grappling with profound grief, but they are determined to honor her memory by celebrating the extraordinary life she lived. A wake service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, NJ, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will follow the next day, Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, with interment at St. Luke’s Cemetery. Friends, family, and members of the community are invited to come together to pay their respects and celebrate Patty’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the Leonard family has requested that donations be made to the National Down Syndrome Society in Patty’s honor.
